We have two Edmonton locations: one downtown and one south side. Bairro Marital Arts Academy

Bairro Martial Arts Academy is our south side hub that houses all our programs under one roof. Get access to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, and Kickboxing classes throughout the week. Become a well-rounded martial artist or dial in to your chosen discipline. Bairro Martial Arts Academy offers programs for ages 4 and up.

Affiliation

Bairro Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is very proud to be a part of Team Renzo Gracie. We joined the affiliation in 2023 under Professor Pat Cooligan, the first Renzo Gracie black belt in Canada. Today, Pat is a fourth degree black belt with multiple Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools.

The Renzo Gracie affiliation is one of the most respected and renowned teams within Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with notable members including John Danaher, Gordon Ryan, Gary Tonan, and Shawn Williams.

A true legend in the sport, Renzo Gracie is a 7th degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coral belt and mixed martial artist.

FAQ

I’m visiting from out of town. Can I come and train at Bairro while I’m in Edmonton?

Yes! Please email [email protected] for information regarding class times.

Can I watch my kids’ class?

We kindly ask that all parents remain in the waiting area during class time and watch class from the monitors. Parents are not allowed to interact with their children during class.

Do you have showers?

Bairro Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy has two showers in our bathrooms. Please bring your own toiletries and towels.

Bairro Martial Arts Academy does not currently have showers.

I don’t have any experience. Can I still participate?

Yes. We welcome everyone of all fitness levels to come check out a class! No experience is necessary.

Do you have gloves or gis I can borrow?

Our Kickboxing classes supply all the equipment you need for a trial class except a mouthguard and handwraps (if you prefer to use them). We have cups, mouth guards, gloves, and handwraps for sale for members.

Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program has gis available to use for your trial class. We have gis, rash guards, and shorts available for members to purchase.

What time should I arrive?

If this is your first time, please arrive 15 minutes early to sign any paperwork and receive a tour of the facility. For subsequent classes, please arrive with enough time to be ready and on the mats for class.

Can Kickboxing and BJJ help me defend myself?

Absolutely. These are two of the most effective combat sports if you are interested in learning to protect yourself.
