Code of Conduct

All members and visitors of Bairro Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing agree to conduct themselves according to the following regulations: 

  • Members and visitors will pay their membership fees on time. 
  • Members will reserve and check in to their classes in advance using the ZenPlanner Member App
  • Members and visitors will arrive to class on time and ready to learn with the proper attire. If you are late for class, please speak to a coach, staff member, or instructor before stepping onto the mats. 
  • Members will purchase one club gi to wear during competitions, seminars, and gradings.
  • Members and visitors will wear shoes in the bathroom and only walk on the mats with clean, bare feet. 
  • Members and visitors will do their part to maintain a clean training environment by properly disposing of garbage and taking home all personal belongings at the end of the night. Spitting will not be tolerated anywhere inside of our facilities.
  • Members and visitors will maintain acceptable levels of personal hygiene while in class, including clean training gear and short, trimmed nails. 
  • Members and visitors will follow directions on the proper execution of an exercise during class. 
  • Members and visitors will treat members, staff, and other training partners with respect and courtesy. 
  • Members and visitors will report safety or health concerns to a staff member immediately, including unsafe training and skin infections.
  • All members must conduct themselves with sportsmanship and professionalism while at tournaments. 
  • Bullying, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated. Bullying includes physical bullying (the use of force or aggression against another person), verbal bullying (using words to attack another member), social/relational bullying (excluding people or spreading rumours), and cyberbullying (using electronic media to cause harm to someone).
  • Jumping guard is banned in the training room for all levels. 
  • No more than 12 members of the Kickboxing program can spar in the studio at one time. Members must have a minimum of 30 classes before they are permitted to attend sparring class.
  • Be aware of your surroundings when you are on the training floor. 
  • Parents must refrain from interacting with their kids during class unless it is an emergency. Outside coaching or cheering during kids classes is not permitted under any circumstances. 

Bairro reserves the right to revoke the membership of any member who fails to keep and obey these rules and regulations. Failure to abide by this Code of Conduct may result in immediate expulsion from the gym for the remainder of the term without a refund.

Studio Policies

RESPECT

Treat all members, staff, and instructors with respect. If you need to leave a class early, please check in with the instructor before leaving the training area. Refrain from whispering or talking during instruction. 

DRESS CODE

Please remove all jewellery and piercings before class. 

Gi classes: 

All members and visitors must wear a clean, proper-fitting gi to class. Gis must have neutral or Renzo Gracie patches. Other affiliation patches are not permitted. Visiting Renzo Gracie affiliates are welcome to wear their club gis. 

All gis must be complete with a top, pants, and belt representing your current rank. Please wear shorts, spats, or compression bottoms under your gi bottoms. Shorts must be free of zippers.

Jr. members (under 18 years of age) must wear a rashguard under their gis. No sports bras.

All members must wear a club gi to seminars, competitions, and gradings.

Nogi classes: 

All adult members are required to wear a clean club rash guard with shorts or shorts with spats to class. Shorts must be free of pockets and zippers.

Children and teens must wear a tight-fitting shirt, compression shirt, or rash guard with shorts and/or spats. Shorts must be free of pockets and zippers. Jeans, cargo pants, loose t-shirts, hoodies, and skirts are banned. 

All rashguards are permissible during open mats. 

Kickboxing classes: 

Please wear appropriate tops and bottoms. All members are required to have one set of hand wraps. During Sparring, members must wear the following safety equipment:

  • Mouthguard 
  • Cup 
  • Shin guards 
  • Head gear (optional for members with 2+ years of experience)
  • Wraps 
  • Gloves

CANCELLATIONS

All classes must be cancelled at least 1 hour before the class. For Kickboxing Punch Pass memberships, failure to cancel a class on time will be considered a “No Show” and the class will be deducted from your membership. 

All private training sessions must be cancelled at least 24 hours before the session. Any cancellation after 24 hours will be subject to a full charge.

MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATIONS & HOLDS

All memberships will auto-renew at the end of the term unless cancelled. All membership changes must be communicated to our staff over email ([email protected]). 

Family memberships are only available for family members living within the same household. 

Month-to-month members may cancel their membership seven days prior to the end of the monthly membership. To cancel a membership, members are required to provide the final day of their membership over email ([email protected]).

Paid-in-full memberships (including 3, 6, 12, and 24 month memberships) will not be refunded if the member is unable to complete the term of the membership. 

Holds will only be placed on memberships in the event of injury or illness. 

All punch passes, memberships, and private and semi-private training packages are non-refundable. Punch passes expire within one year of purchase.

We do not communicate regarding membership issues over social media or texting. All holds and cancellations must be confirmed by email: [email protected]

LATE PAYMENT / FAILED PAYMENTS

A late fee of $25 will be applied for any late or failed payments that have not been cleared up within one week. Memberships will be put on hold until the failed payment is rectified.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS

While we strive to maintain a safe environment, Bairro does not guarantee the safety of personal items on our premises. Please leave your valuables at home. All personal items must be taken home at the end of the night. If items are left on the premises, we cannot guarantee that they will be returned as we empty our lost and found bi-weekly. 

KIDS 

We cannot be responsible for the safety of kids outside of their class times (for Tots, 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm, and for Youth, 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm) and during adult classes. Please supervise your children before and after their class. All kids under 4 must be supervised at all times within the facility.
